FIND YOUR EVERYDAY
What do you want your glasses to do?
The same shape can hide very different devices. Start with your purpose, then display and camera needs, then everyday wear.
Adapted from Naoki’s “Smart-glasses categories in three minutes”
Read the original article ↗First: do you want an external monitor?
Separate a big screen for films, games or a PC from notifications, capture and voice AI.
What matters in everyday use?
“Self-contained” describes the interaction, not independence from a phone or cloud services.
Do you already wear glasses daily?
Consider all-day comfort, prescription support and charging habits—not just the feature list.
Choose external-display glasses
Models such as XREAL and VITURE provide a large view of video from a connected phone, PC or console.
Compare connection compatibility, adapters, resolution, FOV and screen anchoring. A source device is generally required.
Examples of this type
A camera-free HUD for quiet reading
A model such as Even G2 places text and notifications in your view, useful when audio is inconvenient.
Prioritize comfort, weight, prescription lenses and charging. Camera-free does not mean no AI features.
Examples of this type
Try a HUD before committing
Even a useful display may go unused if wearing glasses every day feels burdensome.
Check readability, weight and pressure on your nose and ears. It is fine to wait until you have a clear use.
Examples of this type
Camera and voice AI, without a display
Models such as Ray-Ban Meta focus on hands-free photos, video and voice interaction.
There are no on-lens captions or answers. Consider quiet settings, venue camera rules and people around you.
Examples of this type
Display and camera: balance capability with wearability
A model such as Rokid Glasses combines a camera and display for capture, visual AI and readable information.
Check weight, continuous runtime, heat and where you can wear it. More features do not guarantee continuous use of all of them.
Examples of this type
Audio glasses for music and calls
If you need neither a display nor a camera, glasses with built-in speakers may suit you.
Compare sound leakage, listening quality and comfort. Consider whether your current earbuds already meet the need.
Examples of this type
Waiting is a valid choice
If you are simply curious, first notice where your phone or earbuds fall short.
You can compare products and hands-on coverage once you have a concrete use in mind.
